Cruisers are not numerous north of last sound and they prefer docking than anchoring; if you want to meet them, you can do it along the docks of the rare small communities;

ALCYONE is always dropping anchor and find a lot of space in this lonely cruise. The weather deteriorate,  n give a sad feeling during the short dinghy ride to Kyuquot ; I left the same day keeping the code 0 as expecting  a gentle pushing SE wind...I got gale force to sail around the Brooks peninsula.

This time, ALCYONE must leave the waterways and meet noticable NW swell to reach the next sound; KYUQUOT

The anchorage of RUGGED POINT is gorgeous n invite landing; with these spring tides...

...using the beachmaster wheels of the dinghy is the solution

Some kayaks sometimes visit the park...

...but not tis 22th august, this trail led to the offshore side...

...n give access to some of the best beaches of the west cost...to bad not to share that with Helena...

Next stage is Kyuquot; with the misty anchorage of BARTER COVE

I went under the rain with the dinghy to the place...

KYUQUOT is a very protected harbour, but we are far from the TOFINO prosperity...

I wish to come back on a sunny day, n not alone ... but we are on 23th august and these pictures need no comments !

The other side of the bay is the "touristic"side

3 sailboats on the dock, waiting inside for a better weather...

Sorry... I run to ALCYONE n leave now...

i should have monitored again the VHF weather forecast

The first game is to avoid the huge kelp rafts drifting in a 5m NW swell...

...then the reefing party began up to 2nd reef with a pushing wind...

...with the heavy rain I had to use the radar to pass the CAPE COOK ("visible"left of the mast)

Leeward of the cape, rain stop, visibility improve, but gusts are still ferocious

ALCYONE has to push to KLAKISH anchorage to find shelter, despite the cannon ball from HARRIS PEAK
